Interactive whiteboards were a sensation when they came out and are still a valuable tool in the classroom. Smartboards and Promethean are well know brands, but with the surge of 1:1, the IWBs are becoming more for whole class activities such as presentations.
Here are some thoughts on IWBs.
Advantages
- Big display area
- Can be remotely controlled, "air server" has been a welcome addition
- Functions and resources supplied are plentiful, when you add in Powerpoint and Web 2.0 tools, then resources are endless.
Disdavantages
- not many, but nothing is perfect. For starters, when connected to you iPad and air server, can
make the teacher more sedentary. I have forced myself to get up out of my seat when I can!
- Old Smartboards tended to lose accuracy after a while and need constant re-calibration, projector
also wasn't in the best position - new ones are much better.
